Expert has applied his organic chemistry/heterogeneous catalysis/reaction engineering background to the development of processes for the production of pharmaceuticals, vitamins and nutraceuticals, agrochemicals, flavors and fragrances, liquid crystals and fine chemicals as well as base chemicals. He has broad experience covering all aspects of heterogeneous catalytic hydrogenation such as:
(1) Infrastructure (laboratory and plant instrumentation incl. data acquisition, instrument control and data management) needed for catalytic hydrogenation investigations
(2) Selection and use of appropriate tools and methods in the development of catalytic processes (appropriate use of high throughput instruments, state of the art chemical development, state of the art determination of basic data for safe and reliable scale up)
(3) Development of new processes (chemical system selection, basic data evaluation, kinetics)
(4) Scale up of catalytic hydrogenations (micro- and macrokinetics, thermodynamics, safety)
(5) Assessment of probability of postulated reactions along with route scouting and exploratory investigations
(6) Analysis, assessment and improvement of current plant processes
(7) Catalyst deactivation measurement, catalyst reactivation and catalyst recycling
(8) Safety and risk analysis of catalytic hydrogenations
(9) Improvement of economy and ecology of catalytic processes
(10) particular experience in the selective hydrogenation of alkynes to alkenes, nitriles to amines, phenols to cyclohexanones, stereoselective hydrogenation of substituted aromatic compounds, diastereoselective hydrogenations, chemoselective hydrogenations of multifunctional compounds, selective hydrogenation of nitrate to hydroxylamine, selective hydrogenation of halogensubstituted nitroaromatics to the corresponding halogensubstituted anilines, hydrogenation of sorbitol, hydrogenation/rearrangement of nitroaromatics to para-aminophenol compounds, selective partial hydrogenation of nitroaromatics to the corresponding hydroxylamines
(11) particular experience in the oxidative dehydrogenation of primary alcohols to carboxylic acids

Expert has specific know how in micro- and macrokinetics, determination of gas/liquid transport coefficients, measurement of gas partial pressures in the liquid (also in situ during reactions)

Expert has excellent know-how in the development of highly economic, ecologic, safe, robust and scalable hydrogenation processes.

He consulted fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals custom manufacturer in (1) establishing a new state of the art hydrogenation laboratory including infrastructure, (2) coaching within R&D as well as production, (3) analysis and significant improvement of current plant processes, (4) management of specific projects. selection of appropriate equipment for the development of hydrogenation processes public and in house courses on theory and practice of catalytic hydrogenation for the production of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals (comprehensive course on all important aspects of hydrogenation technology) under the auspices of development of various large scale hydrogenation processes trouble shooting of catalytic hydrogenation processes
