Request Expert

Expert has over 35 years of experience with the synthesis and process development of amines based on hydrogenation of nitriles (including acrylonitrile adducts) or nitro compounds, and amination of alcohols or reductive amination of carbonyl compounds. He developed commercially used heterogeneous catalysts for the processes. He also developed information to allow scale-up and commercialization of the processes and participated in process improvements. He has designed, synthesized, and aided in process development of amine detergents used in cumulative amounts of several hundred million pounds for gasoline detergents. polyoxyalkylene amines, 3-aminopropyl amines, and heterocyclic amines, like morpholine and piperazine, are among the most important examples.

Expert has supervised chemists who synthesized commercial amides for a variety of industrial uses, including fuel additives, lubricating oil additives, and resins. Many of the amines listed under "aliphatic amine" were used for these processes.

While working at the laboratory bench, or while managing the output of a department of chemists and engineers, Expert kept the commercial potential, and realization of that potential, as the uppermost goal. He realized the success in developing commercial processes for nonionic detergents, fuel additives, industrial amines, and industrial or automotive coolants.

For Huntsman Corporation, Expert served as a technical liaison with customers and manufacturers on behalf of sales and marketing. He initiated and maintained customer contact and researched and wrote reports regarding future fuel additive demand. He researched antioxidant additives for gasoline used in small engines, and made helpful recommendations to client.
