Expert trained in Infectious Diseases at the University of California, San Diego in 1982. Since then he has been a faculty member in Infectious Diseases at a major university. He is a Fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America. He has practiced Infectious Disease for more than 30 years. He was a Medical Director of the Microbiology Laboratory at The San Diego VA Hospital, and currently serves as the Medical Director of the Clinical Microbiology Lab at UCSD from time to time. For many years he was the primary Infectious Disease consultant for the Bone Marrow transplant unit. He has published extensively in peer reviewed journals regarding human receptors for bacterial lipopolysaccharide. He has also published extensively on coccidioidomycosis with an emphasis on the immunology of coccidioidomycosis. In addition to scientific publications he has four patents. He was part of the team that determined the genome sequence of Coccidioides. He has presented at scientific meetings around the world. He is presently focusing on research and teaching.

Expert has some experience in biomedical consulting and in expert testimony.
Serves as an expert witness for medical legal cases about five-ten times a year. Has recently been a consultant for biotech firms for FDA issues.
