Expert has over 14 years of experience working in mental health. He has worked clinically in the National Health Service and independent sector forensic, psychiatric intensive care, high secure prison, older adult and child and adolescent mental health inpatient settings taking up various nursing and leadership roles.

Expert also spent a period of time in Australia, here he worked in Young Peoples Mental Health services and in an Emergency Department as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. His last nurse leadership role before taking up his current position as a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health was a secondment from the medium secure forensic hospital he was employed, to develop and lead a secure female personality disorder unit following the takeover of this service from his employer at the time. The role involved providing clinical leadership to the nursing team, and conducting mental health assessments on patients referred from the courts and prison services.

Within his current academic role, the expert is module leader for Principles and Skills of Mental Health Nursing Assessment on the BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies. He also teaches on various other DipHE and BSc (Hons) Nursing studies modules including: Nursing People, Developing Quality Practice, and Promoting Mental Health in Children and Adolescents. He is the course leader for the Graduate Certificate in Teaching Effective Aggression Management and module leader for Teaching the Management of Violence and Aggression and Working with Violence and Aggression modules. He also teaches on the BSc (Hons) Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Solution Focused Brief Therapy.

Expert has published and presented papers at international conferences on management of violence, aggression and self-harm.

Expert recently provided consultancy for an independent hospital who were having difficulty therapeutically managing the violence and aggression displayed by one of their patients. Expert conducted an assessment of the patient and worked with staff members to develop evidence based, person centred care plans for the patient.
