Expert performs research in the area of infectious diseases (bacterial and mycotic) in germfree and conventional animal models. He is the acting director of the Germfree Research Laboratory at Employer, and has over 20 years experience performing research and teaching in this area.

Expert's research over the past 20 years has dealt with studies on the pathogenesis of Candida albicans (the causative agent of candidiasis) and host innate and required immunity to the different forms of candidiasis.

Expert performs research and teaches in the area of mycotic infections. This has included research with several fungal diseases, such as cryptococcosis and candidiasis.

Expert has performed research and taught in the area of the microbial ecology of the gastrointestinal tract for over 20 years.

Expert's entire graduate education and teaching career have been in the field of microbiology with emphasis on infectious bacteria and fungi.
