Expert has applied his nanomanufacturing skills and experience to design and fabricate novel infrared superconducting detectors based on lithographically patterned superconducting nanowires. The detectors his group has developed are at the forefront of infrared photonic sensing for applications in communications, quantum information, microscopy, and metrology. He has published and patented ideas extensively in this field.

Expert has developed superconducting device nanofabrication capabilities including supervision of a multi-step superconducting electronics manufacturing facility. In this role, he supervised fabrication and testing of superconducting devices including classical single-flux-quantum devices, and quantum devices for use in quantum computation. He has published extensively in this field, and holds related patents.
