A young veteran of the technology startup world, Expert most recently held the position of chief executive officer at a carbon nanotube supply company that was spun out of Northwestern University in early 2007. Initially hired as business development manager, Expert was promoted to CEO in late 2008. As chief executive, he helped grow NanoIntegris from a fledgling startup to an established, well-known enterprise in the nanotechnology industry. Among other things, Expert's responsibilities as CEO included managing new product R&D, domestic and international sales/marketing, business development, intellectual property licensing, patent prosecution, fundraising, and grant writing. Notably, under Expert's direction, The firm was able to reduce the cost of its core nanomaterial products by several orders of magnitude, resulting in a proportional increase in revenue from product sales (the exact cost and revenue figures are, however, confidential). Expert was also instrumental in establishing distributor relationships with resellers in North America, Europe, and Asia; negotiating terms for joint-development/supply contracts with OEMs and other nanomaterials manufacturers in the US and abroad; and securing over $1.5 million in grant funding. Through collaboration with vendors, customers, and development partners, Expert gained a keen understanding of the potential commercial applications for carbon nanotubes and other nanomaterials, such as thin-film integrated circuits, transparent conductors, chemical sensors, and optical detectors.
