Expert received his M.D. degree from Columbia University in 1965. He completed his internship in general medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital in 1966 and his resident training in OB-GYN at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in 1971.

Expert has been a practicing physician for 38 years following his training as an obstetrician-gynecologist. The first 27 years of his career were devoted to practicing and directing Divisions of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at seven different major US medical schools before moving into private practice. He taught practical obstetrics and maternal and fetal care to medical students, and continues to perform clinical research in the field of OB/GYN. His professional career also includes participating as a reviewer for numerous journal editorial departments in three authoritative publications.

He has consulted for several national organizations, and is currently a consultant at his own private practice, providing perinatal consulting services. In the past, he has served as a medical staff and provided consulting services on OB-GYN and perinatal issues for various hospitals and medical centers in the United States including in the states of PA, NM, HI, NE, NV, CA, TN, and FL. Additionally, he provided family planning and consultation services for the Department of OB/GYN at an Army medical center for three years. He has also served as a consultant for several pharmaceutical companies as well as for medical schools to evaluate residency programs and curriculum.

He remains employed full-time in consultative maternal-fetal medicine but no longer does surgery or deliveries, which he voluntarily discontinued in 2002. He has done some medical expert work in medicolegal theaters for the last 30 years but rarely carry more than 2-3 cases at any one time. He has however not taken on any new cases for the last 3 years.

His work has a strong emphasis is on humanistic, rational, logical medical practice without undue emphasis on policies contrived for defensive purposes or that are neither supported by good science or common sense. He recommends no guidelines for whom the primary and/or sole beneficiary is the practitioner or the court of illogical procedure. His hope is that to end his medical career never having done anything that is for the exclusive purpose of sustaining bad thinking, protecting corporate greed, or that is not truly in the best interests of the highest standards of the practice of medicine and the patient.

In summary, his career as a part-time medicolegal consultation encompasses perhaps 30-40 cases of alleged obstetric medical malpractice, both for plaintiff and defense. He feels more at home working with defense cases.
