Besides working as Senior Principle Scientist for Kao Brands (Curel Technical Brand Mgr, Jergens Technical Leader, Ban AP innovation, John Frieda Innovation), Expert has worked for Dow Corning as a Senior Technical Service Scientist in the field of silicone chemistry, and Wickhen Products as Director of R&D in the field of antiperspirants, esterification, spray drying, free-radical polymerization, and controlled release.
He has contributed broadly in the fields of hair care research, skin care product development & underarm product development. Expert: (a) holds over 17 global patent; (b) is contributing editor/author for 4 book; (c) teaches courses in siloxane technology & application; antiperspirant/deodorant technology, application & and product performance; Emollient/Moisturizers/Humectant actives; Stability Protocol and Rationale; Controlled release technologies for Personal Care; and Innovative Thinking; and (d) author of many technical articles, and numerous global presentations (as keynote speaker and invited speaker) in the field of antiperspirants, polymerization, controlled release and silicone applications.

Expert is a graduate of New York University-New Paltz with a Masters in Chemistry and of C.W. Post College/Long Island University with a B.S. in Chemistry. He has over 47 years of experience in the personal care cosmetics industry. He is a member of the Technical Advisory Board and past-editor of a monthly column [“Formula Deciphers”] for Cosmetics & Toiletries magazine, past originating author for SpecialChem R&D Highlights, and is a emeritus member (and past chair) of the International Nomenclature Committee (INC)—part of Personal Care Products Council’s (formerly CTFA). He has been actively participating in the Society of Cosmetic Chemist for over 35 years, serving as Chair of Midwest and Ohio Valley chapters, Area II Director, Editor of New York Cosmetiscope, and various positions at the local and national level.


After working for Dow Corning and Wickhen Products, he worked for over 10 years for Kao Brands as a Senior Technical Leader and Technical brand leader for Curel, working on antiperspirants (ban), Lotions and Creams (Jergens and Curel), Hair (John Frieda), and Face Care (Biore). His role was both to develop new and innovative products both to partner with Marketing and Market Research to deliver the right products to the consumer.

Expert has earned over 17 patents, well published in numerous journals on multiple subjects, author and co-author of 4 books on silicones and antiperspirants, taught courses for SCC, Center for Professional Advancement, Fairleigh Dickerson, and SpecialChem4Cosmetics on silicones, antiperspirants, and International Cosmetic Ingredient dictionary, and has extensively spoke and acted as moderator globally at cosmetic industry events. He has been active for over 35 years in the Society of Cosmetic Chemists as Area II director, chapter chairs of the Mid-West and Ohio Valley chapters, newsletter editor of the New York chapter, and technical chair for many different chapters.

He is on the Advisory Board and contributing editor for a regular column for Cosmetic & Toiletries, contributing editor for SpecialChem's R&D Highlights, and has been involved in the PCPC's (formerly CTFA) INCI committee for over 17years -- currently emeritus and member for the International Nomenclature Committee.

Expert has been involved in a diverse cross-section of active personal care cosmetic raw materials both as director of a specialty raw material manufacture with expertise in antiperspirants, silicones, esters, emollients, free radical polymerization, controlled release, and as a senior technical leader at a Kao Brands working on ban, Jergens, Curel, Biore, John Frieda brands. Over almost 48 years, he has applied this knowledge in the area of skin care, antiperspirants, hair care, anti-aging products, lotion and cream skin treatment products.

As a senior technical leader in the personal care cosmetic industry, Expert worked for Kao Brands (Formerly The Andrew Jergens Co) for 10 years, and was involved in skin care product development that includes technical leadership of the Curel brand and understanding of anti-irritation, moisturization, novel product forms. He has many successful products launched with good staying power in the marketplace. Expert was able to utilize his extensive chemistry background, broad raw material knowledge, experienced formulation and application expertise to partner with Marketing and Market Research to work with the consumer in defining and developing the right type of product for the brands market position.

Expert has been involved in personal care cosmetic Antiperspirant technology & applications for over 35 years; working as directory of research to Ban antiperspirant consumer product development. He has been instrumental in teaching and writing about this subject to help others understand the field of antiperspirants.

Expert is an expert in Silicone (Siloxane) technology and application, being involved for over 20 years. He has developed an understanding of how to use and synthesis functional siloxanes, apply them to personal care cosmetic products, and how to substitute them for organics when necessary.

Expert has been involved in polymer synthesis (primarily free radical polymerization) and research along with guiding the industry in types of polymers to use in personal care cosmetic applications. His polymer research was specialized in film formers and controlled release technology.

Expert has been involved with a major personal care cosmetic hair care brand, John Frieda, as a Senior Technical Leader for Kao Brands, working in new and innovative concepts and products. He has been involved in development of novel hair care products that are based on matching structure-function with consumer perception and needs. He been directly involved in new product launches still on the market.

The Expert has over 47 years of Personal Care Cosmetic experience – director of R&D specialized in esterification, antiperspirant technology/ applications controlled release free radical technology, senior technical service leader specialized in Siloxane technology/application, liaison link between customer needs and technology capability: 1. Over 15 patents in a multitude of areas, including polymer free radical polymerization and controlled release, siloxanes, antiperspirants, pesticide control. 2. Strong technologist with the ability to assist coordination of R&D programs, assessment of technology capability and opportunity in personal care industry, patent evaluation, personal care formulation and application 3.
