Expert received his M.D. degree from Baylor College of Medicine in 1982 and completed his resident training in general surgery at Baylor affiliated hospitals in 1985. His training includes postgraduate and/or postdoctoral experience in general surgery, epidemiology, and preventive medicine (board certified).

He also has special training in marine archeology and worked for a sea exploration research vessel as a heavy diver and an Underwater Archaeologist in 1987.

He has served as an external expert reviewer proving protocol reviews and assessments for a major cancer organization. He has also worked as a moderator for various public health associations. His clinical experiences also include being an Emergency Medicine Physician Contractor and Occupational Medicine Physician along with being an Epidemiologist and Preventive Medicine Physician.


Expert received his Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology at the UCLA School of Public Health in 1990 where he also completed additional resident training in preventive medicine in 1992. He obtained the Chief Resident of Preventive Medicine position during his final year at UCLA School of Public Health. Expert has worked as a clinician in emergency medicine (10 years) and as a consultant to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry (10 years).
