Expert has more than 20 years of experience dealing with the theory and application of devices to heat and mass transfer applications. He has published widely in the area of direct-contact condensation, evaporation, and liquid-liquid exchange. He is also knowledgeable of particulate flow processes such as drying. He has been active in the area of multiphase flow since 1967, involving studies of DCHX, sprays, liquid-liquid extraction, and precipitators. He has consulted for industry and ran several USDOE and NSF programs.

Expert has extensive experience with geothermal energy dating from 1973. He is an expert on binary systems applications, well-scaling problems, flash systems, and related issues. He has conducted major programs for the USDOE (and their contractors) related to geothermal energy. A secondary area of expertise f involves knowledge of well drilling and reservoir engineering. He has consulted for Terra Tek, Inc., Equity Oil Company, and Barber Nichols Engineering.

Expert has considerable knowledge of Western US oil shale from Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming, both in situ and mine processing. He has published articles and holds patents in the area of shale oil processing. In addition, he has consulted with a company concerning the extraction of their holdings near Rifle, Colorado. He is an expert in both combustion and steam retorting processes.

A significant portion of Expert' career has involved applying heat transfer to solve problems in materials processing and manufacturing. For example, he has studied problems where residual thermal stresses have led to component failures and then offered solutions.

Expert has developed computer codes to predict heat transfer and fluid mechanics associated with re-entry vehicles, liquid and solid rocket motors, and thermally induced failure. These include burning in cracks and debonds in solid rocket motor grains.

With 35 years of experience, Expert has a wide range of knowledge in the general area of heat transfer. He was an editor for the ASME Journal of Heat Transfer and is on the editorial board of the Russian Journal of Engineering Thermophysics.

Expert has published in the area of thermal stress and thermal fatigue. He has used both theoretical and finite element analyses to predict residual stresses, fracture, and others. Expert' broad knowledge includes fluid/material properties, estimating, modeling/experimental measurement, and process analyses.

Expert has dealt with the prediction of freezing of buried pipelines and frost formulation on surfaces exposed to humid air and porous media. In addition, he has carried out experimental work to determine the thermal conductivity of frozen soils.

These are only a few of the variety of direct contact condensers in which Expert has expertise. He has authored the Heat Exchanger Design Handbook of all types of direct contact condensers, including the HEDU update in the '90s. He has also written a wide range of basic research papers on their design.

Expert has technical knowledge of dental restoration procedures. In particular, he is knowledgeable of caries removal, material compatibility, and environmentally-induced damages (chemical, mastication, and other processes). He has also worked on the design of new dental instruments.

Expert has broad experience developing computational models for convective heat transfer, multi-fluid, multiphase models, and turbulence. With over 25 years of experience in these areas, he is also familiar with convection, conduction phase change, boiling, condensation, freezing, and melting applications. Additionally, he is knowledgeable of commercial software and has developed his own.

Having a thorough knowledge of heat transfer, Expert is proficient in all subsets of this area. In addition, he has more than 30 years of experience in experimentation, models, and instrumentation.

Expert has been a primary researcher in these optical areas since 1974. He is experienced in energy systems, HVAC, combustion, and manufacturing systems involving multiphase and multicomponent heat transfer. He is also widely published in the area.
