Expert Witness Experience
My main area of expertise is in psychiatric nursing practice and mental health services, specifically the risk assessment and risk management of suicide, self harm and violence. I have worked within the NHS and privately as both a psychiatric nurse and Cognitive Behaviour Therapist since 1984. I am still in active clinical practice. I am regularly instructed to provide reports for the court; I receive instructions from Solicitors acting for both claimant and defendant. I have received training as an expert. In recent years, I have been instructed to provide expert opinion on psychiatric nursing including: The High Court (Northern Ireland); The High Court (Republic of Ireland); A House of Lords instructed Public Inquiry. I also have experience in providing expert witness reports / testimony in Clinical Negligence /Personal Injury claims, Family Courts and Professional Practice Authorities (E.g., General Dental Council, Family Health Service Appeal Authority (FHSAA))

I have developed and delivered on the following: BSc Professional Practice - Violence Reduction; Risk assessment / Management module. I also teach within the University on: Research methods; Systematic review; Epidemiology; the care and management of those with personality disorder; and relapse prevention for addictions
