Expert has been involved in pulp mills since 1973. He has a degree in pulp and paper science and has worked in operations. He has worked as a supplier of equipment and process services, and as an independent consultant regarding operational training and process optimization. Expert organized and delivered a multi-day class on pulp bleaching technologies for a trade organization, and has designed computer-based training materials for operating crews for several pulp mills. He has helped with capital projects from initial justification through design, commissioning, and optimization. Expert has also led a team of experts to develop formal operating procedures for ISO compliance.

Representing suppliers of unique process equipment, Expert has provided marketing services for several small companies to gain access to pulp manufacturing companies. Expert has used his knowledge of the industry and contacts to network on the suppliers' behalf -- and uses phone, e-mail, personal visits, and trade organization events, including technical presentations as the marketing tools.

Expert has helped pulp manufacturing organizations with training systems to improve the skill level of hourly shift workers, including the modification of the operator interface and HMI (human-machine interface). Training systems have included new capital projects, rebuilds and updates of control systems, as well as revising training systems to include certification of knowledge.

Expert has consulted for pulp manufacturing companies to assist with first and second line management teams understanding of technical and clarification of roles.

Expert has consulted independently for over 15 years. Recently he helped a client solve operating problems with new press washer and pump, increasing the equipment availability from less than 50% to nearly 100%. Reviewed capital spending plan, investigated vendor references and provided technical risk assessment to improve reliability and capacity. Led team of six experts to provide site-wide assessment for potential buyer regarding technical risk & opportunities of a complete pulp mill. Scoped possible alternatives to reduce bleaching cost while improving capacity.Led team of six to formalize 250 written and illustrated SOP's in six months, establishing a system for future changes & additions to be done easily from within.Managed two experts to provide initial scope study to speed up recycled paper machine from 1000 to 1500 fpm, including detailed water balance. Project was implemented successfully.
