Expert has a long experience in river ecosystems and the application of biological monitoring techniques to evaluate water quality. He has worked on a number of projects examining the effects of altered flow (e.g. through hydroelectric power schemes) on fish habitat and biological communities. He is an expert on the effect of climate change on river ecosystems in alpine and mountain areas.

Advisor to the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development, and the banks of the UK, USA and Japan through AEAT on the influence of the world’s largest pipeline system (Sakhalin II, Russia) on salmonids (2005-2006). He undertook a comparative review of biomonitoring methods for assessing water quality for The Environment Agency.He worked on two major hydroeclectric schemes in Alaska examining the effects of altered thermal and sediment regimes on fish populations.
