TOTAL QUALITY CONTROL AND MANAGEMENT. Expert does consulting on a part-time basis for companies in the area of TQC and TQM. In cooperation with these companies, he uses ISO 9000, Malcolm Baldrige, and automotive guidelines to implement total quality, employee empowerment, and employee participation systems, and is constantly looking at new systems for prevention purposes. He also teaches the Total Quality philosophy for night school students, and has experience in the development of quality control manuals.
He developed and implemented a total quality system for a Pillsbury/Green Giant plant that became the foundation of the plant's operation. This system became the framework for other Pillsbury/Green Giant plants. Additionally, he developed and implemented a total quality system for Automatic Spring Products of Grand Haven, Michigan. The system satisfied the quality requirements for Ford and GM as a qualified automotive supplier and included system changes in control charting, gage calibration, final inspection, and problem solving.
QUALITY SYSTEMS; ISO 9000 QUALITY SYSTEM; QS-9000., Expert was a senior consultant for the Quality Resource Group in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The group specializes in assisting companies in the successful implementation of a total quality (preventive management) system. Those systems also meet ISO 9000 and QS-9000 requirements.
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT. All the systems that Expert has assisted in implementing have a follow-up component provided with them for continuous quality improvement. He utilizes quality function deployment techniques to provide assistance in this. His quality improvement activities are supplemented by his knowledge and expertise in the areas of production scheduling, plant layout, production control, and work measurement.
STATISTICAL PROCESS CONTROL (SPC). Expert has been teaching and consulting on the subject of SPC since 1980. While working for one major corporation, he set up their SPC program. Currently he teaches SPC application with an emphasis on preventive SPC. He instructed 100 participants in SPC training classes for the Hydraulics Division of the John Deere Component Works. He also provides SPC expertise in manufacturing, distribution, human resources, and accounting.
STATISTICAL QUALITY CONTROL. For his Master's Degree work, Expert evaluated the use of statistical quality control and interpretive structural modeling decision making procedures to solve quality problems.
QUALITY SCIENCES; INDUSTRIAL PLANT STATISTICAL QUALITY CONTROL. Expert's consultant and teaching position entails the use of quality science tools such as statistical process control and others. He has assisted companies in the successful implementation of these tools as well as provided training seminars in the field.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT. Expert coordinated the supplier/certification program for the John Deere Waterloo Operations. The project has a potential savings of over $7 million. He also led a project to reduce downtime and waste on a frozen food packaging line. Using SPC tools, he helped reduce downtime and waste by 50%.
He supervised 25 people in a steel manufacturing department. The group manufactured steel hydraulic parts that included processes in screw machining, drilling, milling, grinding, and finishing.
