Expert has worked with analytical atomic spectroscopy for more than 25 years. His knowledge of the application of this technique to the determination of trace to ultratrace concentrations of metals in aqueous samples is grounded on a continued search for a fundamental understanding of the chemical and physical processes occurring in flames and graphite furnace (electrothermal) atomizers used in the analysis of samples by atomic spectroscopy. He can provide insight into the selection of operating parameters for analytes resulting in minimal matrix interferences.

Expert's expertise in the use of inductively coupled plasmas (ICPs) for the analysis of aqueous samples is derived from a continuing quest for a better understanding of the fundamental mechanisms of atom and ion formation and excitation occurring within the ICP. He is also actively involved in the development of alternate detection schemes for improved analytical performance.

Expert has expertise in the application of solution-phase and solid-state fluorescence/luminescence to metal ions bound to biologically derived materials. These investigations have been focused on the modeling of non-viable biomaterials for treatment of industrial and municipal waste water streams. He has used both temporally-resolved and spectrally-resolved fluorescence measurements. He has extensive experience with laser-induced fluorescence and Stoke's optical law.

Expert has extensive experience studying the fundamental chemical and physical processes occurring with these atomizers during the thermal pretreatment and atomization stages of typical temperature programs for analysis.

Expert has published several papers describing application of multivariate chemometric data analysis tools for the elucidation of information from complex, multi-dimensional data sets (e.g., PCA, PARAFAC, MPCA).

Has done troubleshooting of procedures for accurate determinations by atomic absorption. He has evaluated material assays.Has evaluated alternate technologies for waste incineration. He provided technical assistance for the establishment of quality control/quality assurance protocols.
