Request Expert

Expert worked in UK power generation for 25 years and became PowerGen's (now Eon's) expert in corrosion of all items involved in power generation. The areas that Expert has first hand knowledge and experience of include the production of high purity water for make-up, feed water conditioning and the control of water chemistry, corrosion and chemical cleaning of boilers (large and small capacities). He has also expert knowledge of fireside corrosion, overheating and wastage of boiler/superheater tubes. He has provided rehabilitation advice for boilers that have seen operation with contaminated feed water and has expert knowledge of the types of oxide and corrosion products that are formed under such conditions. Short and long term storage of boilers is also a speciality, together with steam turbines, condensers, secondary heat exchangers, ductwork, stacks and all forms of gas handling equipment Expert has investigated many corrosion problems with steam turbine problems including pitting, stress corrosion and corrosion fatigue in turbine blades, pitting and cracking of rotor discs and shafts, erosion shield detachment. He has also provided expert advice on condemser problems including tube wastage due to internal erosion, cavitation, erosion-corrosion, deposit attack and external metal loss due to incondensible gas attack. Expert has given expert guidance on material choices and coatings for FGD plant. Expert has first hand experience of material choices to replace Stellite in PWR nuclear plant combined with chemical and material solutions to overcome erosion-corrosion problems in feed flow systems and metal losses relating to descaling treatments. He has also advised operators of CFB plant on problems with fireside fouling, refractory erosion, fluidised bed heat exchanger failures and airheater corrosion due to acid condensates.

Expert has expert knowledge of corrosion and in aircon systems, fouling and corrosion in chiller and heater exchangers. He has acted as expert witnessregarding corrosion and fouling of steel, copper and brass tube where corrosion inhibition has been incorrect, air has gained entry and/or water hardness has given rise to heavy tube deposits.

Expert has acted as expert for companies that have had corrosion failures of aluminium structures exposed to the atmosphere, electricity conductor wires that have experienced atmospheric induced corrosion and buried cables that have suffered exposure to flooding.

Expert has investigated explosions caused by burst boilers, hydro desulphurisers, electrical switchgear and hybrid propulsion units. He has presented expert evidence in arbitration courts throughout Europe, including Italy, France and Switzerland. He has assisted companies worldwide with chemical, metallurgical and engineering plant failures and problems.
